Karen Kokjer has been passionate about drawing and painting since childhood, where early exposure to art included classes at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City and inspiring art teachers throughout her education. While minoring in painting and graphics in college, she also majored in Chemistry, balancing her artistic creativity with technical expertise.

Her professional journey began with designing packaging, manuals, and advertising materials for a computer company, as well as posters for Denver music venues and game boards for inventors. She later became an Art Director for May D & F department stores, refining her skills in graphic design and creative direction.

In 1992, Karen relocated to Telluride and quickly became an integral part of the local art scene, working in graphic design for the Telluride Times Journal and renting studio space at the Ah Haa School for the Arts, where she also taught for many years. Her work has been exhibited in various locations in town, showcasing her versatility across mediums and styles.

Now based in Montrose, Karen continues to push creative boundaries, exploring diverse subjects and techniques. Her work reflects her joy in artistic expression and her gratitude to collectors and supporters who inspire her to keep creating.
